A Brief History of Lacrosse-

Lacrosse has its origins with the native tribes of North America where it was used as a means of settling disputes without recourse to war.
The evolution of the Native American game into modern lacrosse began in 1636 when a Jesuit missionary documented a Huron contest in what is now Ontario, Canada.
Lacrosse came to England in 1867 when a group of visiting Iroquois played a demonstration game in front of Queen Victoria at Windsor Great Park. Lacrosse clubs sprang up all over the nation and a governing body, the forerunner of today’s ELA, was formed in 1879. Sadly, since its heydays of the 1920’s and 30’s, lacrosse has declined due to competition from the commercialised winter sports of Soccer and Rugby. The Manchester area remains one of the strongholds of the game in England.
