Wacs Crash to Stockport

MANCHESTER Waconians crashed to defeat in the Men’s North of England League Premier Division at the weekend.

Last season’s Northern Senior Flags winners were thumped 12-5 by defending league champions Stockport.

American ace Mike Bocklet top-scored with a brace for the home side, while Dominic Fitzgerald, Alex Langton and Matt Ranigan were also on target.

But despite only being a goal down after the first quarter, the hosts found themselves 8-2 adrift at half-time.

They never recovered from there, sharing the third quarter 1-1 before losing the final period 3-2.

Wacs have two remaining Premier Division fixtures, away to title-chasers Timperley on March 15, followed by a yet-to-be rescheduled home match with Wilmslow.

Meanwhile, Wacs A were beaten 15-4 away to Stockport A in division two, while Wacs B conceded their home match with Stockport B.

As for the juniors, Wacs’ under-12s were comfortable 12-3 winners against Stockport despite having only 11 players on duty.

Wacs started quickly and soon raced to a 2-0 lead through Sophie Shingler and Jay Moore.

Debutant Ben Grant added another before the first break, while Shingler completed her hat-trick in the second quarter.

They increased the pressure in the third quarter, taking a 9-3 lead thanks to doubles from Moore and Adam McDowall.

The fourth quarter saw McDowall become the third player to score a hat-trick with Grant and Iain Brennand completing the scoring.
